PS Plus Extra and Premium Subscriber Numbers are Surprising

Sony has revealed the quantity of PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers and confirms that an impressive amount of people were upgraded to these tiers.

Sony has released the numbers of users who subscribe to PlayStation Extra and Premium Additional and Premium subscribers in a brand new report. It has revealed that a shocking amount of customers are members of the higher tiers. PlayStation Plus transitioned into a three-tiered service on June 20, 2022, which included the essential category remaining identical to the previous model. Customers now have the option to upgrade their subscription to either Premium or Extra, which gives the benefit of exclusive bonuses that are in addition to the standard edition offered by PS Plus.

Members of the Extra tier are able to access a vast collection that includes PS5 as well as PS4 games, and Premium members are able to play a variety of PS1, PS2, and PSP games, and also can stream PS3 games. PS Plus premium subscribers can download trial-length games for a select number of games, which allows gamers to test these games for just a short period of time. In the meantime, Sony has revealed that an astonishing number of players have upgraded to these more expensive levels that are part of PS Plus.

In a recent report, Sony revealed that PlayStation Plus Premium was home to 8 million members at the time of March 2023 while PS Plus Extra sitting at 6.1 million. The more expensive PS Plus tiers now account for 30% of the total subscribers, with Sony recently declaring it. PlayStation Plus has 47.4 million users across all three levels. This data was provided during the Business Segment Meeting, which also included a wealth of information on the PS Plus's performance in the market.

Sony has confirmed PS VR2 has sold 600,000 units since its launch of the game, which represents an increase of 8% over figures for PS VR during the same time. The report also noted that the version for PC that came with the game The Last of Us Part 1 has sold 368,000 copies, and Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered sells more than 1.5 million copies. The report also provides other information that refers to Sony's plans to invest in the PlayStation division as well as the key areas of growth.

The brand new PS Plus tiers launched just one year ago, and it's quite impressive to Sony to have managed to get the highest number of subscribers during the past year. While a few titles have departed PS Plus Extra and Premium however, the range seems to be growing steadily as Sony introduces more games from first-party developers for PS Plus Extra, with Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart arriving at the end of May in 2023. It will be interesting to see whether the number of games is increasing and/or decreasing over the coming years because it's possible for some players to return to the basic premium tier that comes with PS Plus after trying out Premium or Extra for one month.
